Users signing up for a Bitbucket Cloud account using an academic email get a 500 error

Summary

When someone is signing up for a new Bitbucket account using an academic email address, they get a 500 error after they choose a username.

The accounts gets created in Bitbucket Cloud, but it has no email linked to it.

Workaround

Open a ticket with Bitbucket Cloud Support:

Please mention the username that you selected and also the email you used to create the Bitbucket account.
