Downloads - Naming and contents

The 'gz' download is really a .tar.gz, and should be reflected both in the dropdown and url. The actual file download does indeed have the .tar.gz extension.

In addition, the archives seem to contain a folder at the root of the archive named <repo>-<changeset>, which should just be named after the repo, no changeset.
