Code Markdown rendering is ignored in certain situations

Replication Steps:

1. Open a pull request
2. Add some text that contains the 'code' markup.
   
3. Create or Update the pull request.
4. View or Edit the pull request

Observed Behaviour:

'code' markup is lost when viewing, (except for 'code' markup that has empty newline before it.)

'code' markup is lost when editing, (except for 'code' markup that has empty newline before it.)

Expected Behaviour:

'code' markup should be maintained in all circumstances .
