Editing an issue and changing assignee duplicates issue text as comment

Started seeing this behaviour recently. I have an issue with no assignee. I click Edit, then assign it to myself, and confirm. This adds a comment to the issue, saying it was assigned to myself (which is OK), but which also contains a copy of the description of the issue (which is not OK).
