Issue #2436 resolved

Cannot change custom hostname, after entering wrong hostname which already exists and points somewhere else.

Aman Kumar Jain
created an issue

I added a custom hostname A and got a message that it's DNS was not being resolved. Then I just entered another hostname B (the hostname already exists and is pointed somewhere else).

No I constantly get the message "The hostname "xxxxxxx" does not resolve to bitbucket.org. Please check your DNS settings. (Your hostname currently points to x.x.x.x.)" also I am unable to enter another hostname. It just gives the same error everytime.

    Hi Aman,

To add a custom hostname, you would create a CNAME record in your own domain. You make that CNAME point to bitbucket.org.

If you have done that and Bitbucket still complains that your CNAME does not point to bitbucket.org, you may have to wait for DNS propagation (which can be as much as days, depending on your DNS provider).

If it still doesn't work, maybe you can let us know which hostname you have created so I can have a closer look.

    Cheers, Erik

Hi Erik, I was getting the following error: I had created an dns entry, "code.experimenti.se" points to "bitbucket.org". Since bitbucket was complaining "your CNAME does not point to bitbucket.org", I tried entering "experimenti.se" which redirects to "amanjain.com".

Then I started getting the message "The hostname "experimenti.se" does not resolve to bitbucket.org. Please check your DNS settings. (Your hostname currently points to 208.97.133.78.)" and I was unable to change domain name to "code.experimenti.se".

I just checked back before posting this response and it works perfectly. Thanks :)
