can't start SPlayer

I'm running the latest version of SPlayer on Win7 Home Premium x64. When I run it, nothing comes up, and TaskManager shows SPlayer.exe is consuming more and more memory (starts @ ~13MB and goes all the way to ~1.2GB). Then memory usage (according to TaskManager) decreases, and then eventually disappears from TaskManager.
