Very frustrating UX when choosing branches of a pull request

I'm doing pull requests on a git repo and keep getting taken to the wrong page when choosing branches because the UI is difficult to use. When I expand the dropdown to choose branches it's far too easy to accidentally click the branch name or the commit hash for any particular option. I'm forced to pay very close attention when choosing a branch so that I click the dropdown item without clicking any of the links therein.

I would be much happier if there weren't links inside of the dropdowns to select branches on a pull request.
