Issue #3626 resolved

I'm sure you have all seen some of the obvious spam or inappropriate comments eg: I could find many others. What a drag for moderators, but there must be some simple way to weed out at least some of these?

We require anonymous users to fill out CAPTCHAs, but this is insufficient to deter all spammers, apparently. The solution I advocate is disallowing anonymous comments, but this has been contentious when I've brought it up with the team. Anecdotal evidence suggests that a significant proportion (5% or so) of anonymous comments are made by Bitbucket users who fail to realize that they're not logged in at the time. Disallowing anonymous comments would actually prove helpful in such cases (a nice bonus).

Since this issue was raised we've switched to recaptcha, that has been more effective, but not 100% foolproof.

We tend to handle incidents on a case by case basis so I'm closing this for now. If you continue to have spam issues just raise a new issue here.
