Issue #3740 wontfix

Why do I have to create an alias equal to my user name?

Dr. Erich W. Schreiner
created an issue

When I create a new repository and then push my local equivalent using my normal credentials, the submitting user is shown as "unknown". Only if I create an alias <username>=<username>, the gravatar etc are displayed correctly.

    Hi Erich,

We don't match committer strings to username as its very easy to confuse these with the wrong users.

We suggest you setup your committer string as suggested in this documentation, http://confluence.atlassian.com/display/BITBUCKET/Setting+your+username+for+bitbucket+actions

We will try to match you based on your validated email address, we feel this is a safer way of attributing commits. Others can still commit as you but it is less likely to happen by accident.
