Issue #3769 resolved

Link to most-recent version of static file (BB-3768)

Kevin Burke
created an issue

AFAIK you can only link to a raw version of a file at a specific commit, like https://bitbucket.org/kevinburke/better-hn-filter/raw/d69537c2e068/LICENSE.

It would be nice if you could always link to the HEAD version of that file.

The URL could be:

https://bitbucket.org/kevinburke/better-hn-filter/raw/LICENSE

Or:

https://bitbucket.org/kevinburke/better-hn-filter/raw/head/LICENSE

It would be cool to if you could put tags in there where head goes, but head would be great at the moment.

Oh! It's good that the branch name works, I'll use that. HEAD really only makes sense in the context of a particular branch, anyway, so may not be a bug that you can't access HEAD at a url. Thanks for looking into it and writing back.

    Hi Kevin

We are going to leave the functionality as is.

Like you mention with HEAD, using tip for mercurial probably isn't that useful since it can jump around (i.e., it points to the very latest commit, regardless of branch). Instead, default or any other branch would make more sense for mercurial.

    Cheers

    Erik

I think they want to prevent hot-linking to JavaScript files and other stuff which might be included into HTML pages. But still it would be nice to be able to link to a source code file from the wiki.
