Issue #4928 resolved

Colons in the link URL of Markdown text don't get rendered correctly (BB-5921)

Marcus Bertrand
staff created an issue

If you use a colon in a URL for a link on the README, the resulting link when the page is rendered won't be correct.

To workaround, escape any special characters in the URL. For example, a : can be replaced with %3A.

There was a question whether colons are or are not allowed in URLs for uses other then URI scheme separator and it seems that they can be used, see for instance http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2053132/is-a-colon-safe-for-friendly-url-use. So this is probably a BitBucket bug.

    Try pasting this into http://daringfireball.net/projects/markdown/dingus:

    [1]: http://example.com/url:with:colons

It works there so it probably should here on BitBucket too.
