Pull requests fail to load after git reclaims objects required for the PRs diffs (BB-7238)

Issue #6319 resolved
Ben Buchanan
created an issue

We are getting an error "Something has gone terribly wrong..." on a PR. The diff starts loading (flash of rendering content) then just ends up with the oops message.

We end up having to abandon the PR and all tracking/commenting info and doing a new one; which is a pain in the arse.

This occurs when a commit the pull request references is currently not reachable.

If the branches involved in the pull request have no been deleted or rebased, then I suspect git has garbage collected some of the objects/commits in the pull request.

I've pushed out a fix to make prevent this problem from occurring again (hopefully).

Please feel free to re-open this issue if any problems arise.

Also, #5814 is somewhat related to this issue: creating refs to pull requests.
