Issue #7207 resolved

Choose your default destination branch on pull request

Maybe it's an oversight, but I'm always having to cancel my pull request because I forget to change the default to DEV not master. Is there any way to change that?

we rarely merge into master because that's our prod. can we choose our default fSOURCE for pull requests as something other than master?

    Hi Chris,

The pull request form defaults to the repository's main branch ("HEAD" in Git parlance). That's set to master by default, but you can change it to anything through the repo admin page.

Note that if you change that, that'll also be the branch you get by default when you clone the repo for the first time with Git.

Hope that helps! If you have any other questions, let me know.

I agree with Kunal. My team forgets to change to the dev branch when they create features and pull requests. Would be nice if there was a bit bucket setting that could be set rather than relying on HEAD.

Adding my voice to supporting a different default PR destination branch instead of only being able to set the main branch. I prefer having everyone check out master to start with, but most of our PRs are to a different branch. I don't doubt this is fairly common.

This doesn't seem resolved to me. The request was for specifically setting the default branch for pull requests, not the main branch for the repo. I would love to see a separate setting for that.
