The issue tracker layout is getting worse when a new column is added (BB-8950)

Issue #7795 resolved

You are adding new columns like "milestone", "version", now "vote". Please look now what happens with the issue page, especially at the "title" column (which I believe is the most important one). I don't use a big display, only that one on my laptop, and it's 1366x768. You cannot expect that all people use >=24'' or something to get a good layout on that page.

    Some suggestions on how to improve:

    • an option for milestones to appear in smaller version like the components;
    • option to customize which columns appear (maybe someone wants to set a milestone but does not want to actually see the milestones on the list;
      • Someone that does not care about create times of issues could remove the column from the listing for example;
    • option to customize the order of columns;
    • option on the menu to show the issue status alongside the component;
    • size settings like gmail (for those who do not know, these settings makes everything more close;
      • comfortable;
      • cozy;
      • compact;

    Hi guys,

    Thanks for your feedback. I've just pushed out a change to improve the layout a bit. That said, we didn't eliminate any columns so there's still a lot of information there. We'll definitely keep in mind the possibility of eliminating or configuring columns in the future.

    Cheers, Zach

    Please look at this screenshot - the milestone column is useless for us because we can't see what it contains. The votes column is not even used, we wish there's a way to hide that to get more real estate. This screenshot is taken at a full-width browser window on a 24 in monitor, so not a small monitor either.

    We're having the same problem as described above by @Tri Nguyen, except with the Version column. The column is so narrow, it's always truncated, so it's not very helpful - despite having plenty of unused horizontal space available.

    The Chrome add-on mentioned above does a great job of fixing this issue, while the Firefox add-on at least allows you to hide unused columns like "Votes". At a minimum, I'd like to see ALL the column widths natively (without add-ons) scale to the available width of the browser. Right now only the Title scales, and the rest of the columns are fixed-width. Show/Hide and Width configurability would be gravy.
