Issue #8437 wontfix

Pull request commit message template (BB-9559)

Martin Geisler
created an issue

I would like to be able to customize the commit message suggested when I press the merge button for a pull request.

Right now, I see

Merged user/repo into team/repo (pull request #123)

which isn't very interesting when users always submit their pull requests from the same repository (please see #8209 and #6705 for why we cannot use bookmarks in a single repository on Bitbucket).

The format I need is this

Merge [delivers #123456] (pull request #123)

where #123456 is an issue ID from our bug tracker. We put the ID into the commit messages and into the pull request title, so it would be cool if Bitbucket could somehow extract that and suggest it here. I'm not sure how to do that in a 100% reliable way, though.

I would also like to see this added, my preference would be the following format:

    Merge [<pull_request_title>] (pull request #123)
    Merged user/repo into team/repo

This allows quick and easy control by the user of what shows up on the first line of the pull-request commit message, without needing to modify it when accepting the pull-request.

    Hey Martin,

While I understand the scenario, I have to be honest and I doubt we'll be able to implement this in any reasonable timeframe (assuming we would even be able to come up with a reliable way to implement this, as you suggested).

Instead of getting people's hopes up, I'm going to preemptively close this as wontfix.
