Feature Request: Ability to add meaningful Repository name

Anonymous created an issue

The list of recently opened repositories is difficult to discern as they are named according to the containing directory name.

It would be nice to be able to give them meaningful names.

How is the directory name not meaningful? You can name it anything you like, either when you first clone or at any time afterwards (just by renaming it in the Finder or with 'mv'.)

Yes, I agree, mostly the names are meaningful, but sometimes there will situations where you may version control something in a directory that is not meaningful..

For instance, in the Repository | Open Recent, I have an item named 'Master' and another name 'db' that are difficult to identify based on the directory name.

In context they make sense, but when you version control something in a project subdirectory, it is not always possible to change the name and therefore discern what it is.

The Open Recent submenu is managed by Cocoa and always shows the actual filenames.

I think the Projects window will do what you want. You can drag a repo into it, and after that you can edit the name of the item to whatever you want.
