If this is a game that valve wants to release, for free, to the entire steam playerbase, you better fucking believe they want it to be as friendly as possible, and NOT intimidating. In a game like Dota 2 the metagame is a lot more flexible and less stagnant than LoL allowing pub teams to succeed with very creative lineups. I played LOL before and its much more easier to win if you just play solo and dont care about other. A lot of known pubbers are there and play against pros quite frequently. Check the page for all of the entry requirements. As a reward, some features that are difficult or expensive to operate are available only to Plus members. It would be a minimal amount of work and require minimal GUI changes, and have no negative impact whatsoever. Another example is that it encourages people to walk away from teamfights too early, to prevent themselves from dying even if it sacrifices the rest of the team.
Perhaps revealing these numbers on an individual basis, fine. Whether or not stats are released, the ability to defuse the matter is unchanged. No way to get high mmr on solo match. Like most everything else we do, matchmaking is subject to constant reevaluation.
But I think we should push Valve to use a more meaningful system. You then suggest that people who would use stats to flame are all people who would flame regardless of stat availability. The first time you complete a zone with one or two stars will net you Battle Points rewards, and delivering a three-star zone performance will grant a treasure from the aquatic terror himself. A player who has a 3 KDA and plays very high is obviously a better player than one who has 6 who plays in normal games. If you feel like your games are getting better, then be dota 2 matchmaking stats. The ultimate goal of matchmaking is fun, and we have several metrics which we use to measure match quality. I think matchmaking could be done differently. Perhaps there could be a way to implement this stat tracking to judge a players effectiveness in a single game. How true can this be, though?
