I have failed to reproduce this. If you are using automake 1.12 you might try 1.13 and let us know if that works. (I’ll bump the required version.)

Actually, if I had to make a wild guess, I would say the Guile installation isn’t fully functioning, because that libguile-sortsmill_symbols library is generated by a Guile program. You might try the lisp overlay’s ebuild.

When I re-ran make, it succeeded in building.
