Feature Brainstorm

Use this page for recording ideas that might be fun to add to Trosnoth in future. If you want other developers to be able to talk to you about the feature, make sure you include a username or email address next to the suggestion. If you think your idea might be controversial, make sure you start a discussion about it on the trosnoth-dev mailing list before working on it.

General ideas

  • Dynamic terrain elements, like shortcut doors that are only open when someone is standing on a button --michael_mcclenaghan
  • During a serious match, give each team two 30 second time outs (pauses). After a time out, play resumes when either the 30 seconds are up, or every player selects ready. To initiate a time out, two players on the same team must vote for it (unless the team has 2 or fewer players, in which case 1 is enough). --talljosh

  • When player has lots of $, give them a top hat and monocle --Phedges
  • Add random events (configurable option) - e.g. coin showers, rogue long-life ricochet bullet --Phedges
  • Configurable option to multiply coins gained (in any way) by a factor --Phedges

Items / upgrades

  • Portal gun upgrade: temporary portal that disappears after 10s. Expensive, but helps get through choke points. Both friends and enemies can traverse, including maybe grenades/trosball? Potentially not placable in dark enemy zones for balance. --michael_mcclenaghan
  • Land mines/motion activated bombs --Jane and michael_mcclenaghan
  • Grenade Launcher: Acts similar to grenade with arc'd motion, but faster, smaller blast radius and explodes on impact instead of bouncing. --michael_mcclenaghan
  • Special ricochet, has very little ammo, but each bullet ricochets for a very long time --Phedges
  • Sword and sheald upgrade: I was thinking like have 3 hp bt have eather a swing over the top of your head approximately 12-4/5 on a clock infront of you or straight in and out around the middle of you also the shield could block shots from directly in front of you or even rebound them like in pong --AndrewA

  • Squad spawn - allows team mates to respawn at your location --Josh D
  • Run fast upgrade --AndrewA
  • Jump high upgrade --AndrewA
  • 45 degree shield arc that moves with your mouse / riot shield. Timed, not damage based. --Phedges
  • Mortar bullets, affected by gravity --Phedges
  • Bullets with recoil, to use as a jetpack --Phedges
  • Phase shift through walls - expensive upgrade with very short time limit
  • For a fixed time, turn on team kills for the enemy team --MatthiasE

Game modes

  • Counterstrike: two teams, terrorists and counter-terrorists. One team tries to plant a "bomb" at one of two sites and hold it for ~30s. Other team has to defend said sites. 1 life, more than 1 health (maybe 3-4 shots worth). Limited map visibility (only your team visible). Would definitely benefit from custom maps. --michael_mcclenaghan
  • Stuck in the mud --Jane
  • King of the hill: hold the top zone for one minute total to score/win. Holding it gives you extra health, or machine gun etc. Good for free-for-all where you don't have enough players for a full team game. Could also work as a team game --michael_mcclenaghan
  • Normal rules, fairly large map, but each team starts with only a single zone at opposite ends of the map. --talljosh
  • Gang up: every player starts on their own uniquely-coloured team, and has 5 health. When a player dies, they join the team of the player that killed them. All zones are neutral and spawnable by everyone, zone caps are disabled. --talljosh
  • New game mode for teaching how the physics work and for fun but basically red rover so it would work like 1 person is it everyone else has to get from 1 side of the map to the other the way you get tagged is the person up has a sheald but in set of whereing out it takes them. When tagged you eather help take more or become ghost (as a ghost you can slow tge people that are it) now the map would be inverted so on a small map with not man people it would go 2-1-2 hexs on a large map it would go 4-3-2-3-4 with alot of people -- AndrewA
