LINEAL is a template library to provide generic linear algebra functionality,
centering about vectors and matrices.
The entire library consists only of C++ headers; the most straightforward way
to install them is to just extract the lineal project into a directory named
lineal, somewhere on your system include path. For debian (and most other unix-
like operating systems), the included makefile's install command creates a
directory /usr/local/include/lineal and installs the header there, so if that's
where you want to install, just type (as root):
$ make install
As usual, make uninstall removes the entire installation.
class vec implements the full range of standard vector operations; the template
takes two arguments: a dimension specifier, and an element type.
The dimension specifier should be a positive integer; note that some operations
are only defined for dimensions for which they make sense.
The element type can be double, float, int, or any other type that supports
basic arithmetic (addition, subtraction, unary minus, multiplication and
division); note, however, that integral types perform poorly in terms of
precision due to their integral nature (duh).
For most applications, you'll want to use double for the element type.
The cross product is defined for dimensions 2 and 3 only; for 2-space, it
calculates the z component of the cross product of the corresponding 3-space
vectors, assuming a zero z-coordinate. In other words, (a,b) x (c,d) equals
z where (a,b,0) x (c,d,0) = (0,0,z).
