Clicking the Configure link in dashboard gadgets is taking user to the login screen as it is prompting user to provide admin credentials
Steps to reproduce:
-
We have configured this plugin to show only 2 weeks data on our instance.
-
After that we are adding the timesheet gadget on the dashboard and in the gadget edit screen we are providing "number of weeks" = 4.
-
After that we save this configuration to see the results on dashboard.
Actual Result: User gets to see an error message stating: "Specified number of weeks is too big, maximum allowed number is 2" and a Configure hyperlink after that.
Clicking the Configure hyperlink is taking user to a login screen where user is supposed to provide admin login credentials so that he can configure the plugin in admin console.
Expected Result: User should Not get to see the Configure hyperlink and should see only the error message. Please disable the Configure hyperlink for all users on the instance. We are marking it as a Blocker because we plan to release this plugin on our instance this weekend and hence need a solution to this issue ASAP.

Hi Reetesh,
Blocker bugs are the bugs that prevent the product from working. Especially main functionality. The problem you described is not any feature broken, but rather non-ideal user error handling.
Thank you.

Please do not specify 4 weeks to avoid this error.

reporter Hi,
You are right in stating the importance of Blocker issues. Since we had a release this weekend and we were short on time hence we logged this issue with a higher priority so that it gets addressed quickly. Thanks for your support. We'll discuss the same solution with our internal stakeholders and might get back to you with further queries/suggestions on fixing this issue for our users.

Hi Andriy,
Thanks for your quick response.
I am fine with the priority of this defect to "Minor" (not blocker & also workaround available) but I am having concern with the "Won't fix" status.
In general sense, admin configuration screen link should not be visible to non-admin users because they are not responsible for admin configuration. From a end-user prospective, this is a weird behaving as user redirecting to login screen because current logged-in user is not system admin. Instead of this, user friendly message should be show like "Please contact to your JIRA administrator to increase the time-sheet report weeks limit" or any other helpful message.
Please validate and let me know your understanding.

Hi Gavad,
I absolutely agree that current behaviour is not ideal, and I'm sorry for brevity when resolving the issue. The point is, when administrator sets 4 weeks, he sees the error message, and should immediately correct it, he is not expected to leave this as is, right? From other hand, it is technically problematic to implement different error message for non-adminsitrator users in gadget. So taking the impact to user and efforts needed to fix the problem, it is not feasible to get this done.
Thank you.
