Unexpected error - now I'm locked out of JIRA in Safari

Issue #843 new
Hamilton Colyer-Long created an issue

Going to start this post at the end - the problem was fixed by clearing the browser history.

Now I'll jump to the details and perhaps you can tell me if this is something caused by the gadget or some Safari problem - but noting that I have never seen this error before and I use Safari every day.

I had just changed a gadget from being grouped by Worked User to Project, and was re-editing it to click All Users twice because of the issue related to this #841. After making that change and clicking save I had a notification "Unexpected error". I refreshed the page an am now getting:

"The operation couldn't be completed. Protocol error" (NSPOSIXErrorDomain:100)".

I now get the same error for every JIRA page I have bookmarked. Confluence has the same error. BitBucket however works fine, as so does every other web site I tested.

Restarting the browser allows me to see the login page but it doesn't load properly - the text is there but the layout is bad and there aren't any graphics. If I attempt to login then I get the same error described above.

Clearing the browser cache does nothing, similarly restarting the Mac has had no effect.

Other users are not affected, and I can login successfully using Chrome.

After researching the issue I found that some people had previously solved this in Safari by clearing the history - I did this and now JIRA is working properly.

So this should be a fun one to debug! It might be a Safari problem but like I said before, I've never seen it before, and whatever the fault is in Safari it seems to have been triggered by something the gadget does. Good luck!

Just had this error occur again. This time I was testing adding a new gadget and setting the project and group, and then deleting the gadget and trying again. After doing this successfully several times, I deleted the latest test gadget and tried navigating on the original gadget on the page at which point I got the unexpected error. After seeing the error, the gadget on that dashboard seemed to get stuck loading and I refreshed the page - at which point I got the "NSPOSIXErrorDomain:100" error described in the OP. I immediately cleared the Safari history and refreshed the page, after which I was prompted to login to JIRA again; I did so and after this the dashboard was accessible again. I didn't need to clear the cache or restart the browser.

    Hi Andriy,

I'm seeing this error a lot now and its getting to be a real nuisance. At first I was only seeing the problem when I was editing gadgets but now I see it sometimes when I just open a dashboard with a gadget and before I do anything on the page, and other times it happens while navigating or changing filters.

Normally the error that first appears just says "Unexpected Error" but now sometimes I'm also seeing "Time Tracking is currently OFF. Please enable Time Tracking in Administration - Issues - Time Tracking". Time tracking is turned on..

Every time this happens I need to clear my browser history, reopen all my browser tabs and reset all the filters on the gadgets I'm viewing.

Would appreciate if this one could be fixed ASAP.

    Regards, Hamilton

Error still happens quite frequently. Clearing the browser history is not convenient!

@azhdanov I haven't had this problem occur for some months now and believe you can close this ticket. Regards, Hamilton
