Timesheet report can't handle long periods

I used to be able to run time reports for periods up to a year. The new version can't seem to handle more than a few months. I had a report set up for a single project from 1/1/2016 to today. When I changed the start date to 1/10/2015 Chrome started hoovering up memory until a single process went over 1Gb, then it crashed. Because of the way the new time report is built, remembering settings from the last session and refreshing the report every time you change a filter, it kept crashing every time i restarted until I was quick enough to change the start date. Again, the new timesheet addon simply isn't a replacement for the old plugin. The way it's built is fundamentally wrong and as a result it just doesn't perform.
