Gadget usage in Confluence - doesn't store seetings

Issue #989 resolved
Martin Kellner created an issue

We use the timesheet gadget in Confluence (Jira, 7.1.7, Confluence 5.9.11, timesheet report version 3.0.5.1). We always have to set week/month selection and "sum worked hours by week" again, when we login again to Confluence. Any way to keep the settings for all users?

    Hi Martin,

There is Month View option in Gadget Configuration, does it work better?

    Thank you.

    Hi Andriy,

no „Month View“ is always set to „no“ if I get back to the gadget parameters in Confluence.

    Hi Martin,

Sorry for late response, please try setting "Month View" option to "Yes" in confluence gadget configuration.

    Thank you.

    Hi Andriy,

this doesn't help. If I get back to the dialogue of the gadget in confluence, the option is disabled again.

    • changed status to open

Do you mean that you change it to Yes, and the setting is not preserved? But other settings are preserved?

  6. Martin Kellner reporter

    Hi Andriy,

yes, I changes it to "Yes". yes, other settings are stored.

Which parameter is "sum worked hours by week" in the configuration dialogue? Because we want to store this too.

    Regards Martin Kellner

Normally, Sum by week/month and Month view options are saved in cookies, but for convenience Monvh View is added as gadget setting also, for default option, and it also implies Sum by Week.

But if Month View gadget setting is not saved, is it stored when you use gadget JIRA at all?

May be you can also try to add new gadget to different confluence page, is Month View setting stored in this case?

  8. Martin Kellner reporter

    Hi Andriy,

if I'm in Jira - I hope this is what you mean - "Month View" gets stored. But the report only changes if I set "sum by" from month to week and vice versa. If I set it confluence, I see months instead of weeks on the time axis.

    Regards Martin Kellner

  9. Andriy Zhdanov

So Month View gadget setting works in confluence? You just need to click calendar like icon in gadget view to "Sum by Week".

If it works, you may clean up cookies to make Moth View show weeks by default.

    Hi Andriy,

so I have to explain our usecase: If someone gets to the confluence page, he should see the configures timesheet reported. We sum up work for every month and show it for the last twelve months. Summing is controlled by a custom field that stands for a customer name or a project number. So this report is independent of individual settings of the current user. The probability that a user changes this report manually and wants to see it in the same way for a second time is near to 0.

    Hi Martin,

I understand your usecase, but don't quite understand actual results you get. I tried to explain how it works, and think that it seems to work. Please let me know if anything wrong.

    Thank you.

    Hi Andriy,

the situation is at the moment: If a normal user starts with a clean browser (all cookies are deleted), he has to press two buttons to get the view that I want him to look at("Month view" and "sum by week/month"). Is this what should happen?

    Regards Martin Kellner

  13. Andriy Zhdanov

    Hi Martin,

It depends on the default and desired view. If gadget config setting has "Month View' set to 'Yes', gadget should show Weeks by default. It might correspond to desired view. If not, please let me know what is missing.

    Thank you.

  14. Martin Kellner reporter

    Hi Andriy,

we need to be able to set "Month view" and "sum by week/month" in the gadget.

So the gadget should come up with "Month view" and "sum by week/month" buttons set in the same way they were set in the configuration dialogue. At the moment you only could set "Month view" if it wouldn't lose its value. "sum by week/month" isn't configurable at the moment.

    Regards Martin Kellner

  15. Andriy Zhdanov

Yes, "sum by week/month" is not configurable at the moment, but I don't understand why it's a problem. "Month view" implies "Sum by Week", do you want something else or it is not working?

Or "Month View" configuration option is not working?

  16. Martin Kellner reporter

So the timesheet report comes up when I enter the confluence page: Timesheet_gadget_one.png

Next step: I want to see months and not weeks: Timesheet_gadget_two.png

Then I want the sum by months: Timesheet_gadget_three.png

Month view is not stored - and it doesn't imply the sum function. Otherwise I would go directly from step 1 to 3.

  17. Andriy Zhdanov

    Hi Martin,

Thank you for step by step screenshots, let me just check, before the first step, have you set Yes for Month View option in gadget configuration in confluence?

    Thank you.

  18. Martin Kellner reporter

    Hi Andriy,

I made one handling mistake ... I made the same mistake once in the past. The save button of the timesheet report configuration can only be accessed by scrolling. I have to press save twice. This is one part of the problem. So we are at step 2 now.

I still have to press the "sum - week/month" button twice because you come up with "show daily hours".

    Regards Martin Kellner

  19. Andriy Zhdanov

    Hi Martin,

    It sounds better!

Sorry, I can't do anything about Save button, it's provided by Confluence itself.

But regarding "sum week/month", cookie must be saved in your browser, that makes it show by days at 2nd step. Please check cookies for your JIRA host in browser settings, similarly to screnshot: AJS_conglomerate_cookie.png

It's safe to remove the AJS.conglomerate.cookie cookie to make sure gadget has default behavior. Then it should show Weeks for Month View by default. I've just double checked it also, and it still seems to work.

    Thank you.

  20. Martin Kellner reporter

    Hi Andriy,

why isn't the default value for the summing option configurable as the "Month View"? I think that gadgets have a more informal background / character. So users don't want to configure something in many situations.

    Regards Martin Kellner

  21. Andriy Zhdanov

    Hi Martin,

Because it seems redundant so far. Looks like default behavior is what you expect, it's just a matter of making it work.

    Thank you.

  22. Martin Kellner reporter

    Hi Andriy,

as I explained in the mail before, it would be great to have the possibility to configure the summing option at some day in the future. If a user changes it, you already store it in the cookie and not in the macro data. You already have this behaviour for the "Month View".

    Regards Martin Kellner

  23. Andriy Zhdanov

    Hi Martin,

I agree it could be an improvement, but am I right thinking that original problem is solved and you can achieve desired behavior without it?

    Thank you.
