Detecting presence over multiple Wi-Fi access points

Issue #36 new
Lucas van der Have created an issue

I’m having issues with Smart Presence detecting my devices across multiple Wi-Fi access points.

Example

When my device connects to AP 1 it will trigger the Specific user arrived action. Then when I move to a different part of my home, my device will switch to AP 2 and Smart Presence will trigger Specific user left and then Specific user arrived. However sometimes it won't even trigger the Specific user arrivedaction, and I’m marked as “away from home“ until my device connects to AP 1 again.

Expected

I’d expect that Smart Presence wouldn’t trigger the user left/user arrived every time my device switches from Wi-Fi AP

Misc

I’ve tried fiddling with the delay, timeout, etc. settings, but nothing seems to resolve the issue. Have you got any advice on how to approach this issue? Is this a known issue or is it something I need to resolve. I can imagine this might be a configuration issue of my network.

    Hi Lucas,

Just add the second IP (in a second device) on the second router, and make sure that IP is reachable from homey.

The thing is, I’ve got multiple AP’s set up within the same WiFi network. So my phone might switch from one AP to the other but my IP stays the same. Are you suggesting I split my AP’s up into different WiFi networks?

If the device is reachable, then the detection should work. Are you sure it’s the same IP?
It’s a thing you can try. Though it all depends on reachability, nothing fancy is going on under the hood of this app.
