Add a way to switch to a "tree view" in view screen

In view screen, your CF could be displayed as a tree (similar that in create/edit screen) instead of a line with selected value separated by a comma

What for display the tree in the view? You can enable show path for option. For view full tree You can click edit button in field

yes but in our instance, inline edition is disabled (it's too disruptive for a majority of our users) ... It's just a suggestion ;-)
