/etc/aliases overwritten?

Ubuntu server 14.04

I had this contents in my /etc/aliases before setting up Monit:

root: [e-mail]

After installing Monit, I ceased to receive mail sent to root. I looke at /etc/aliases and the contents where:

monit: root

My line was not there anymore. Does Monit setup OVERWRITE /etc/aliases instead of adding it's line...?

Monit doesn't touch /etc/aliases at all ... it is probably some 3rd party package or Monit installer which does this modification. If you installed Monit using Ubuntu package, please report bug to Ubuntu.
