I need to restart the system (linux)

Is there any way to restart or shutdown the whole system (operating system for me it is linux). I want my system should restart if any particular process fails or cpu reaches given limit in /etc/monit/monitrc.

Are there any possibilities?

This should work if <failed test> then exec /sbin/shutdown -r See man shutdown.
