status page memory leak if mhttpd not running

google chrome 98 on macos, see midas status page grow to 4 Gbytes when mhttpd is not running or we cannot talk to it for some reason (browser asks for manual accept for https certificate, in this case).

this is related to the rework of web page and json rpc error handling already requested in other bug reports.

Tried that. Could not see any memory increase after ~half and hour. Also looked at the code, saw no obvious memory leak. Furthermore, JavaScript has a garbage collector so it’s hard to produce a memory leak there. Tried Chrome 103 on MacOSX 12.4. Is this problem still there?
