Scramble the data on a drive for use with hardware retirement/recycling/disbursement
Issue #206
new
It would be helpful to have a mode that would allow the MDS system to make the data on a FileVault-encrypted drive unreadable. This would allow us to feel more confident about the destruction of personal or organizational software/data before hardware is retired/recycled/disbursed.
In the past we used a tool named Derik’s Boot-And-Nuke (DBAN, at dban.org) to overwrite gibberish to the drive. While this was sufficient for spinning-drives, DBAN isn’t compatible with SSDs.
Booting to recovery mode manually and using Disk Utility has been our current method. Might there be a way to automate this? Turn “MDS” into Mac Destroy Stick?

Interesting. How about Mac Destroyer Stick? That would be cool.
