ASR Restore Failing

Issue #447 on hold
Amit Patel created an issue

On the latest build (Version 2.2 (22012) and getting ‘/Volumes/Macintosh HD is formatted as APFS and you are trying to restore an HFS disk image’ even though I am in Mojave Recovery and restoring a APFS image. Check script? Rolled back to previous version and seems to be working fine. Thanks.

I’m seeing the same issue in 30073. Built a 10.14.6 asr image and giving same warning. I reverted back to 2.1 (21853) and it worked again.

Just tried on 30080 and it worked fine. I suspect it might have something to do with the state of the drive. Did you try running it again after it failed? Erasing the drive in disk utility and trying again? Any help replicating will help a lot!

I'll have time tomorrow to run through this whole sequence again. I was rewiring the drive and trying again but not successful. I tried wiping it as HFS and APFS, but I'll re-do the whole workflow again tomorrow to make sure!

I just tried it again on 30098 and it’s working for me now. I had gotten the same error message. /Volumes/Macintosh HD is formatted as APFS and you are trying to restore an HFS disk image and sure enough the drive was formatted as HFS. Went back to Disk Utility, formatted as APFS and it worked this time. Worked using an http ASR dmg and one saved to the mds.dmg file. 🙂
