MDS 3.0 Initial MDM Profile -Update Button

When the Blue Update button is pressed nothing happens and it then hangs.

    I just tried this again with version 3.0 (30045) and it still freezes after pressing the update button. Is it looking for other MDM settings because at the moment there are NOT any except the "Set Initial MDM settings. See #450 for the path to what setting I'm setting.

    I tried this again with build (30098) As you can see after clicking on update nothing happens. The progress bar never shows anything and after 10 minutes I force quit MDS. Oh, the menu item Window > Show Log does NOT show anything.

    Do take note of the time stamp of the screen captures. That is the date and time of my last attempt.

    @timothy perfitt this issue looks to be caused by the Bonjour on Catalina issue. Also affected is Configure DEP Token > Export Public Key that becomes unresponsive when Bonjour has this problem.

    Ray, a temporary workaround can be done by going to System Preferences > Sharing and toggling status for any Bonjour service. Can confirm by clicking on Open Enrollment Page. If enrollment page can load then Bonjour is working again and other MicroMDM services should work ok.

    Ray, can you confirm if the MDM enrollment page will load in your browser when you click on Settings > Open Enrollment Page?

    Dave, What started me down this path is that I “NEEDED” a way to create “profiles” so that I could upload them to Microsoft’s inTune MDM. I did NOT want to fire up Apple’s Server to start their MDM and I did Not want to fire up Micro MDM that is built into MDS, BUT, I saw that MDS did have a way to create “Initial setup profiles” BUT MDS did NOT expose that feature until MicroMDM was started. In MDS 3.x the options/settings for creating the “Initial setup Profile” is exposed but it can NOT be saved. That process hangs my MDS 3.x. That is why I opened this ticket. Tim has since told me about an App. named “Profile Creator” . That App. does indeed do what I want, “Create profiles to be uploaded to inTunes”. BUT that is yet another App to run. Since MDS has that ability built it, it would be GREEEEEAT to be able to use that. One app to rule them all. 🙂

    Ray, what I am seeing on my test machine is that when this issue occurs it is because the machine is having a problem running Bonjour, a known occasional concern for Catalina. MDS requires Bonjour to be working in order to communicate with the MicroMDM service it starts. This is required for the Configure MDM Profile feature to work properly. The current issue appears to be that MDS starts MicroMDM, but when trying to do operations for Configure MDM Profile, since Bonjour is not working the MDS UI will hang waiting for MicroMDM to respond, which it won't because of the problem with Bonjour. The best way to observe evidence of this being the problem is to try to open the MDM enrollment page in the browser. If the browser shows that the service is not available it supports that the problem is being caused by Bonjour. We are currently working on a solution for how to handle when this happens with Bonjour.
