Same problem can be replicated on Arch.

    The solution is to:

    sudo pacman -S xdg-user-dirs

According to http://packages.debian.org/stable/allpackages xdg-user-dirs is also in the debian repositories so I'm guessing for debian you just have to do:

    sudo apt-get install xdg-user-dirs

Although I'm not sure since I don't use debian, I think this should solve it. From what I can tell, this problem arises when glib.get_user_special_dir(glib.USER_DIRECTORY_MUSIC) is null and it throws the error as mentioned above.

    if glib.get_user_special_dir(glib.USER_DIRECTORY_MUSIC) is None:
print "You need to install xdg-user-dirs"

Add something which looks like this for the meantime? (I'm not sure the code works... it's just getting the idea across.) Then at least it throws an error people can understand.
