Pausing game does not pause game

Despite pressing escape to pause the game, WASD can still be used to move around, and my funds still deplete.

Running windows 8.1

Game Version: 8.6.8317.45378

Escape doesn't pause the game. Pause pauses the game. As does switching away to any other window. And pressing any key, such as WASD, or switching back to the window, resumes the game.
