Switching to another monitor in i3 doesn't release the mouse

I'm using a dual monitor setup with i3wm, and the game running in full screen on one monitor.
Switching to a window on my other monitor with keyboard shortcuts will cause the mouse to remain grabbed by the game. Clicks are still being handled properly but the camera remains locked to the same angle.
Switching to a different workspace on the same monitor as the game properly releases the mouse.

reporter I can't seem to repro this anymore. I'll just blame it on dark Xorg magic.

Hm, that sounds like it may be a bug in GLFW3 which we use for window management. I'll pass it on upstream and see what the dev says.
