"An error occurred" on board while loading issue details after enabling jira-threaded-comments add-on

Every time we update (including transitioning) a Jira Service Desk issue on a board (in our case, a Kanban board), the issue details view doesn’t load (remains grayed out) and we get the following error:

We’re running Jira Server 7.13.5 with Jira Service Desk 3.16.4 and jira-threaded-comments 1.27.2.

To replicate this bug:

1. open a board
2. log work on a Jira Service Desk issue

We’ve disabled the add-on for the Jira Service Desk project only, but that didn’t work either (we’ve disabled both the threaded comments and vote on comments features). Only by completely disabling the add-on we can prevent the error from happening.
