First packet on startup not sent via Kenwood D710

Issue #115 resolved
Ken Hagler created an issue
  1. Set up a Kenwood D710G with QTH using the D710 connection type, and start with both the radio off and QTH not running. Make sure the radio was in APRS mode, not packet mode.
  2. Turn on the radio and switch to packet mode.
  3. Launch QTH. watching the radio as you do.
  4. Notice that the “STA” and “CON” indicators flash briefly on the radio as QTH connects to it.
  5. Notice that the incoming/outgoing packet display in QTH shows that a beacon was sent via RF, but the radio doesn’t transmit. You can confirm with another APRS capable radio that the initial beacon when QTH is launched doesn’t actually get sent.
  6. Now quit and relaunch QTH.
  7. Notice that this time the beacon is sent.
  8. Now quit QTH, switch the radio to APRS mode and then back to packet mode, and relaunch QTH.
  9. Notice that the initial beacon is not sent

It appears that when the radio is switched from APRS to packet mode the connection from QTH takes slightly longer, but QTH isn’t waiting and tries to send the first beacon immediately while radio connection hasn’t yet been established.

Ah, yes, sounds like I need a delay in there to wait for the radio to restart in KISS mode.

But in other news, it sounds like QTH is successfully communicating with the D710 now, with the addition of the D710 device type?
