Optimization of search results

Issue #35 new

Hello support team,

first of all thanks for the great plugin and your support.

We would like to address some possible improvements of the glossary search results (search bar on glossary index page):

Sorting of results

We are assuming that most of the users of the search bar are entering an abbreviation at first rather than a complete term.

Therefore, is it possible to add weight to terms with the precise abbreviation compared to a term, which includes the letters of the abbreviation?

Example: We have a term with the precise abbrev. ‘APP’ (not related to Application) and in the results list after typing in ‘APP’ we have many terms of ‘Application…’ at first.

Search results sensitivity

A ‘missing’ space in a term will reduce the number of relevant and shown results.

Example:

We type in the abbreviation ‘TROM’ and we get the results for terms with abbreviation ‘TROM 1’ and ‘TROM 2’. That is ideal for us.

We type in the abbreviation ‘RIF’ but we do not get the result for a term with the abbreviation of ‘RIFID’ – only if we type it in completely. On the other hand, after typing in ‘DIC’ the search bar gives me as result ‘Key Performance Indicator’ (abbreviation KPI):

Therefore, I think the filter for a search in the abbreviations database should be ‘contains these letters” instead of ‘are exactly these letters’? For the search in the term name database it should be more sensitive.

Thanks for your feedback.

BR, Kristof
