Version Tags

Just a suggestion on making it easier for us to contribute fixes here.

It would be helpful to be able to checkout a version via tagging. So for example would love to be to working with 1.7.4 without all the changes that have since appeared in the master branch.

Also perhaps would be a good idea to have a branch for development. When we sync with your master we get changes that are not necessarily finished or will make it into release.

I started doing this a while back. I'm still working on figuring Git out. I'll try to move the experimental stuff into a new branch as well.
