I do not say the need for that. The name “mouse_move” stems from matplotlib, being defined in https://github.com/matplotlib/matplotlib/blob/master/lib/matplotlib/backend_bases.py

We simply override this function to provide x/y coordinates in sensible units. We do not even call or reference the mouse_move method in any of our source files (as it is connected by matplotlib itself).
