Files with odd behaviours (no fast-seek / skipping to next track)

Issue #1193 new
Ian Fretwell created an issue

Since v2.3 I’m seeing issues such as: -

Files are processed through mkvToolNix (v71 through v74) and being viewed from Serviio v2.3 running on a Qnap TS673a NAS (running QuTS-hero h5.0.1.2248 & 2277).

The processed files cannot be fast-forwarded beyond 1x on my Oppo UDP203 bluray player & the internal video player on LG tv's (models from 2018/2019/2021) - as if the operation being requested is blocked. Chapter skipping is also blocked.

Worse still - the files that exhibit the behaviour above will also skip to the next track - repeatable at the same point in the file every time - making the file unwatchable beyond this point. This might be after 5 minutes or an hour - different per file.

However - the same files viewed from a USB stick plugged into the device (either bluray or TV) will play with no issues - with all operations working as expected.

If I reprocess a file though Handbrake it then plays fine - every time.

I am at a loss as to what to do next. Can you help - or suggest why this never happened with v2.2.

Additionally :- I’ve now setup Serviio v2.3 on a Windows 11 PC and used that to deliver the same file - this works OK. So only the QNap version has the issue. Is there any way you could provide me with a v2.2 that will install onto a QNap with a firmware v5.0.1 to try ?

Now setup Plex on the same Qnap (so therefore looking at the exact same file rather than a copy - as in the Windows 11 instance) - this also plays fine with all capabilities working as expected. Definitely looking like Serviio is doing ‘something’ with the file that it perhaps shouldn’t.

The only issue I can think of is that transcoding is in place, perhaps due to a different profile being used. If there is no transcoding then there should be no difference, the file is served as is.

Sometimes USB and DLNA playback in a TV can differ and have different capabilities, btw.

If like to say that answers it but unfortunately not, the issue exists (in my case) regardless of the device playing the stream (so the LG video player on the TV's or the Oppo Blu-ray). Transcoding is also turned off both for Serviio & Plex...

Is there anything extra I can do to try to identify the issue?
