i have some files .mkv with softsub which the subtitles don't appear. All the files with softsub i tested have the same issue.

do you mean external .srt subtitles file or subs embedded into the mkv container?

then it's up to your player to display them, nothing to do with Serviio AFAIK. There is a ticket to extract these and use them as an external srt: #16
