Stream desktop to DLNA Renderer

Issue #193 resolved
Marc created an issue

It would be great if the desktop or a secondary desktop (extension) could be streamed to the DLNA renderer. Maybe Serviio could add a virtual VGA/DVI adapter to do this.

These guys are doing it: http://www.wildmediaserver.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=562

I have successfully compiled the current FFmpeg SVN version using the following patch and mingw32: http://lists.mplayerhq.hu/pipermail/ffmpeg-devel/attachments/20100324/19dec5b3/attachment.obj

With the new binary I was able to use this commandline to create a MPEG2 TS stream which contains my desktop:

    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Serviio\lib\ffmpeg.exe" -f gdigrab -i desktop -y -copyts -qscale 1 -qmin 1 -intra -an -f mpegts Desktop.m2ts

The only problem is that Serviio ignores files which do not contain an audio track and therefore I cannot add the file to my library.

    Check out http://screenr.com

It is a Java-based service to capture videos of one's screen. It is programmed in 100% Java. So the technology should be there. Maybe it is to slow for our purposes and it is better to use ffmpeg directly.

Please push this feature. It is such a great idea and no DLNA Server out there can do it. YET! This would be such a special feature for Serviio and would spread it even more.

Please please please give us this feature!!! This sounds so awesome. Even if it isn't working 100% in the beginning.

    +1 from me.

I am using Samsung's Allshare software after exclusively using serviio. It is pretty much identical in functionality to serviio. Desktop streaming would really single out serviio.

So yes, please add this to the next version which is I think 0.6

Any chance you could share your copy of FFMPEG with both those patches integrated?

    Changed content? What has changed?

I am new to Serviio and use many other DLNA servers (Samsung, Nero, etc.)

Serviio is really state of the art but this desktop rendering feature would be the icing on the cake.

wild media server has the abilty to stream your desktop to the tv, it is pretty unusable though due to the very high lag, and uses vlc stream: to do it.

I think it is to be expected to have some lag the first time this feature is introduced. It would be nice to have something like this in Serviio and then get reduced time as the code gets more polished. I don't see a reason why the lag should be high (unless you go with vlc stream maybe). There are other ways apart using vlc stream to stream the desktop.

how can you make Wild Media Server stream your desktop to your TV? I don't see the setting. Also their website does not describe it. Can you help us out?

Works quite well. I would like to see it in Serviio though using FFmpeg. Why is this issue still on hold? Seems like one of the most wished for features. I do not expect wonders and 30 fps perfect desktop streaming.

    I agree. Me wants :D

The issue was opened almost a year ago without any changes. Probably dead.

Great. I thought about this feature and now found this issue. Genius!!!

    +1000 from me :D

    Can't wait for 0.6.1

Genius!!! You are the best Petr!!! I am just waiting for the next release now :D :D :D

    Agree! Perfect :D

Can you please package VLC and everything else necassary with Serviio so one can directly start the desktop-streaming from the Serviio console UI?

For my purposes I would like to stream my FullHD desktop with as little CPU usage as possible. How is this achievable?
