Possible use of system notification on macOS ?

Serviio uses notifications to alert the user of its server activity. This is very userful.

But would it be possible (maybe as alternative choice, not the default one) to use the system Notification Center of macOS?

Developpers seems to have solutions to get it from Java: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/11720652/using-10-8-notification-center-in-java

Another solution would be to let the user give a external system command to display the notification texts from Serviio. Therefore mac users could send notification to terminal-notifier for instance.
