Unable to setup MS SideWinder Precision Pro joystick

OS: Windows 7 64 bit

I'm trying to setup my trusty Microsoft SideWinder Precision Pro joystick in the game. It is being detected but the when trying to setup the controls I'm having a hard time assigning movement to the correct axis as the slightest movement is triggering either joystick axis 0 or 2.

Also the menu kept scrolling down at some point making a proper setup impossible with the joystick attached.
