Assisted-Aim Laser Lock

Here is how it should work:

  • Assisted aim can be set as an additional "weapon" to the game. So the player would cycle through weapons to select it.

  • It will require a red lock for it to work. The length of the lock can be the same as a warhead lock from yellow to red to start off with. Can adjust for balance as needed

  • The lasers should not lead the target but shoot at its center. This gives a chance for the target to evade. This also follows the movies.

  • When a player is targeted by this weapon, the fighter laser light above the crosshair will start flashing yellow, then solid red.

  • We can debate whether the AI should have it (technically they do in a way).

  • Not all ships will have this weapon. The Z-95 for example (correct me if I'm wrong but its targeting computer wasn't that advanced).

I believe this feature is critical for the gameplay and longevity of the game. It will allow casuals to enjoy shooting with little effort, and skilled pilots can save themselves from eye strain when they do not need to destroy the target quickly or skillfully. It is also based on the movies as well.

Elite pilots can still use manual as it is quicker to kill with and is a counter to this style of play.

I would like to add that this can be strictly regulated to custom missions/multiplayer. Single player can remain as it is since the original didn't have it in the first place.

Wouldn't this make it incredibly precise at long ranges? I mean, it would kind of defeat the purpose of the aiming mode in the targeting computer.

Should it be limited to shorter range?
