In the original, a FG ordered to attack another FG above a certain distance (15 or 20km?) it would not engage. (Lazy enemy starfighters.)
Most noticable in T4M1 with GUNboats attacking Player instead of Corvettes, when player would normally be out of GUNboat range.
Also in T5M16, as the player is out killing probes, GUNboats beeing too far would leave the player alone.
