Cannot detect Win95/98 collector's CD or installation

Issue #66 resolved
Former user created an issue

XWVM cannot detect the installation folder of Star Wars: X-WING Collector's CD-ROM (Windows 95/98) (additionally contains X-Wing vs TIE Fighter Flight School) Running XWING95.EXE

The current workaround is to copy the following data from the XWING95 CD into a new folder, so that XWVM can detect the following folders and files: X-Wing Data\ XWINGCD\TALK\ XWING95.EXE

Attached is a graphic listing the exact folder structure and file layout on a real physical XWING95 CD, and the resulting installation files.

Thanks for reporting this along with the precise file structure. This will be very helpful for supporting the 1998 CD-ROM. (I didn't have any real copy of this edition handy, so I didn't know the precise file structure of the disk to recognize it).

XWVM requires access to the CD files, that aren't present in the installation folder of X-Wing98. Does it correctly detect the physical CD as a X-wing folder? (I mean, you select the CD drive with the CD inside, and XWVM lists the resources found?) If it doesn't, it's a bug. If it does, then it's the intended behavior. Retail CD editions need to be read from the physical disk or copied to a folder in the hard disk. Installation folders created by the installer programs from these editions aren't useful to XWVM, since they don't include most of the resource files.

No, it won't detect the CD as X-wing. It also won't let me navigate the XWINGCD subfolder. It seems to be hanging on the X-WING DATA folder within that, because if I copy the folder structure to the harddrive and change "X-WING DATA" to anything else, XWVM will allow me to navigate into the subfolder. It still won't detect the files though.

According to my workaround, it only works if it detects all three in the same folder:

    X-Wing Data
    XWINGCD\TALK
    XWING95.EXE

I've done some changes to the paths that the X-Wing 98 Retail CD detector code searches for according to the very helpful screenshots you posted. I am setting this issue on hold until you can test the new build and determine whether the issue is solved or not.

Still doesn't work on the latest build 170815. The result is the same as the ScanFail screenshot posted before. XWVM won't let me navigate inside XWINGCD. I still suspect there's a bug when trying to access/detect "X-WING DATA". If copied to harddrive and renamed I can navigate the folder.
