In an effort to slim down the installation size, as well as remove unnecessary routines, this PR removed FreeType2 and the routines that use it directly.
I have two concerns:
1) This means an additional system-level package has to be installed for Matplotlib, which may not universally be the case.
2) There may be a handful of people out there who use this on a regular basis.
I should note, to test this you can grab the install script from:
but it won't have any effect unless you are running on a system without a previous yt install, unfortunately.
On a clean Ubuntu, without adding additional items to the "apt-get" instruction, this actually fails. Perhaps a better solution would be to remove the routines and the compile-time dependency, but leave the freetype installation as optional in the install script.
