I suppose it would be possible to parse the data dumps or to convert them to an SQL database that would be queried against for release information instead of using the web API. I'm not sure I understand the use-case for this as foo_discogs runs inside foobar2000 and can't really be automated. It may also be slower to work with the multi-GB data dumps than to query the API, and the information would be out of date.

A better solution would probably be for someone to create their own web interface over the data dumps mimicking Discogs' API. foo_discogs could be configurable to use a different server (ie. one running on localhost) without having to know how to parse the data dumps itself.
